blog pimpage and more space ships

wargames and railroads
Kris @ wargames and Railroads is having a giveaway to celebrate his birthday and to celebrate 100 followers. Lot's of neat prizes and worth checking out. I am hoping to get the memoirs of a WW1 Marine and just had to use my reserve post to pimp him out and increase my chances!

So, my modest Ork Fleet! I like the Orks, Orcs, Marauders, Reavers, whatever your choice of names. For me, no matter the conflict or background, GW orks simply live to fight. There is no fear of showing up for battle and having a blue on blue battle. Orks fight anyone including themselves.
The grand days of Rogue Trader are past, my favorite rules with Mad Boyz, Shokk Attack gunz, animosity, over-the top Bioniks... Orks are still fun though. In the flavor text they like weapons "wiv lotz uv dakka" and every ork ground vick favors "a 'ard racin suzpenzion" meaning no shock absorbers. The orks don't use brakes so much as more gas, every vehicle has a big button that when pressed makes the machine go faster, then faster again each time pressed. Not a historical force by any means, but honestly the background makes me like them more!

Since the Evil Sunz like to "Go Fasta" and have the infamous Kult of Speed, I gave them the Brute Ram ships. Minimal weapon systems, overcharged engines, and heavily armored crew compartments; these ships are made for ramming and running through enemy ships. I painted them mostly red as orks believe the red ones go fasta!
I couldn't find any of my Evil Sunz clan boys, so now pictures of them yet!

The Onslaught is a basic frigate for orks and an average all rounder.
The Oscar prow is a hinged jaw which is a loading/unloading ramp as each ship holds an ork warband with attendant vicks and dreads.

Death Skulls or Deff Skullz like the color blue and believe it to be a lucky color.

Death Skulls are one of the poorer clans and often loot the battlefield for anything of use. The other clans do not trust them as Death Skulls often "find" another clans gear as well! Notorious thieves!

Blood Axes are another clan and also not liked. They favor the uniformity of the human forces and mimic them.(an earlier post has my old Blood Axe Kommandos in a lurid purple camo)
These ships are Ravagers and feature torpedoes. Ork crews are not very disciplined and will often fail at reloading ordinance. These ships may only fire once in battle twice if I roll very good! Since Blood Axes try to be disciplined, they got the ravagers. Orks use looted torpedoes as they are more reliable than the ones they make. I figure the Deff Skulls painted them blue before trading them to the Blood Axes

A basic unit of blood axes painted a long time ago. My Cadian 7th Cav are in blue, so most of my Blood Axes have a confederate look.

Here is a Goff Nob with the Savage Gunships. Goffs like the black and red colors and have a Bull as their totem. If you look closely this ork has a bull ring nose piercing. He is from the shortlived GorkaMorka game which I still play on accasion. My army is predominately Goff , so lots of black and red with the occasional white and black checkerboard.

Savage ships do not have the range of the onslaughts, but they do have a lot of short range big guns.
The Goffs got them because they like to "get stuck in" and these ships do have a lot of Dakka!

So my tiny Ork fleet all set for battle.
I would do the chaos ships next, but my paint table is finally clear of work and filled up with my Napoleonics. I hope to get them done quickly and have them skirmishing in small towns. I don't have much by the way of Peninsular War Terrain, but I do have a lot of trees and Dave Graffam models which will work well enough for the time being.
Have a good week and don't forget to visit Kris and wish him a Happy Birthday!

clearing the workbench

It's still been a busy time in the Sith lair,. Lot's to do and getting the kids off to their activities has left me often confused as to where I need to be next!  My daughter( the 10yr old) is still beating me in the run too! It is a respectful time I get for a two mile run, but she is still beating me by almost a full min. She completed the last one in nearly 16 minutes flat! I can outlast her on the longer runs, but I still think that I'm going to be quite tired after these 5k runs we have signed up for( she says 3k are for wussies).

My wife has me clearing out a few rooms for remodeling and I just found out that I am to plant the garden tomorrow...this explains the profusion of flora and seeds that are blocking my garage doors and the back porch. I had my suspicions when I got home from work this morning, but then I was also hoping it was a mild hallucination induced by my long work week and daily exercise regime. Regime as in Insanity is a workout derived from interrogation techniques of the Spanish Inquisition. If you participate in this gross miscarriage of human suffrage, you are a masochist or someone is forcing you to do so(my wife) She says I'll thank her later, but for now I am certain that there is something that I did or said that needs to be apologized for! Perhaps she is trying to cripple me to keep our firmly as front runner in our runs!....they are both girls after all!

I am still trying to get my Napoleonics on the workbench, this means some projects had to get cleared. these are all Reaper minis and most were Christmas gifts or homecoming gifts.
The ginger in the trench coat is my gang leader and behind him is his little sister with a sniper rifle, his ol' lady, and the start of his gang...I'll need to find some more mini's to fit in with them.

A back shot of the gang. I still haven't decided on the gang colors yet nor name. this is an excellent way to show the backsides of the ladies though!

Doc Dread, or not-Victor Doom. the brazen gun fighter in the front is his number one henchman...but he also has purpose in my Sci-Fi collection!

Dr Dread with  Goon#1 and Goon#2

Dread's allies the Purple Nurple(my kid's named him), Overload, and The Crusher

I truly want to game Sci-fi skirmish like blade runner, 5th element, etc.
I am always on the lookout for scifi civies/ COB's(Civilians on the Battlefield)
I still need more for objectives, victory points, and LOS blockers
these are a couple of robots with some painted resin crates

The anima hero reminds me of sucker punch, the scifi ganger fat clark will work well as hero ,thug, or even 40k gaming, lastly Dr Dreads gun slinging henchman will also fill some function in future games.

another shot of the work

some spec op boys for zombies/spies/ even my scifi skirmish

the not Ving was wishlisted for zombie games, so far he hasn't been used in that capacity. He has fought dr Dreads minions, and been in shootouts with cowboys and bikers.
He is joined by The Shadow and The Spirit.
I haven't used the last two at all yet. They may be superhero backup for my kid's heroes as they try to thwart Dr Dread. They may also end up as heroes in Howard Whitehouse's Mad Dogs with Guns prohibition gangster skirmish.
I haven't gotten those rules yet nor the many Wargames Foundry mobsters and Safari adventures and natives. Hopefully I may get those by Christmas as like any good wargamer I keep my list updated and in easy access for family....Especially since my wife has verboten any attempts to buy/acquire  or otherwise increase the mountain of neglect this year!
I have some ork ships to post, but I'll save them for next week in case I make no progress on my Napoleonics. If I can keep a post in reserve, perhaps I'll be further inspired to keep the hobbyside moving.
My kid's each have three heroes they painted( 12 goody-two-shoes) but they do not want me to share them. I am proud of them(kid's and minis) so I will try to sneak a few pictures of one of the games soon too!
if this works I have been successful in showing the few lurkers where to go to try for some neat free swag. I have lurked on Tamsin's site for a while and she is a great painter and fellow hobbyist.
I'm not as slick as most with the computers, so apologies for the unsophisticated link.
I'm much better dragging my knuckles, shooting, and sneaking through the woods....It used to be running to, but you know... 10 yr old girls are tough opponents!

just a little farther...

So, April was a bit of a blogging failure. I did not get very much done at all.Mostly this was due to work both security and military duties. I also was kept busy by my kids and birthday parties( mostly mine! ;) ), and a lot of wife mandated family activites! The later was yard work to include gardening and outdoor grilling. A big weekend was spent repairing an tending to the Rosa Sharon hedges and other plants that were waking up from the winter slumber. I also have been doing daily runs, insanity workouts and ruck marches/ runs; as fitness standards have not been relaxed and I have been doing little since deployment ended. This makes it hard on a 45 year old body as I do not have the quick recovery time of my youth! Despite the lack of April posts, I did get a bit done. A break in weather let me prime up the new Battle Fleet Gothic ships. I also printed up several Stozels Structures and added to my que of unbuilt PDF! I did some kit bashes with plastic troops, painted a bit on my incomplete armies that Household-6 wants done. In addition to this, I began painting the ork fleet and primered my Napoleonics. The fleet still needs a bit more work to be ready for a photoshoot. GW has ceased production on the Specialty Game range. With no available cash and lots to do, I can't order any available stock. I will try to pick up some more on Ebay and other sources later, but at the moment the fleets are locked in. The ork fleet is only four classes of ships which I have begun painting in the style of my 40k warband. The speed freaks Evil Sunz got some red and metal brute ram ships, the deff Skullz received some basic Onslaughts with the oscar like prows painted blue( blue is magic for them), the disiplined( for orks) Goffs got the big gunz frigates in black and red, and the military minded Blood Axes now own the unreliable torpedo frigates in gray and green. I'll have to dig out a few 40k ork squads to properly show off the paint once completed. I still have to figure on the chaos ships, but I'm leaning toward green and grey to match my nurgle marine traitors. I'm mostly excited to get started on my Nappies! The coats of primer are drying as I type! They are Victrix and Perry plastic. The British have Victrix Penninsular War Flank company and artillery and Perry plastic British line. I like the detail in the Perry models best, but Victrix let me build crouching infantry so I can form nice firing lines. I'll keep the regiments represented by individual manufacturers as although they match in size, the differences in sculpts do not mesh in the same unit! I primered them in white spray because I really want vibrant reds and whites. I hope to add a victrix center company, another flank company and additional artillery set. From Perry I will add another infantry company( or two as British Rifles are included! GOOO, SHARPE!), and a British cavalry set like the Hussars. The French do not have artillery yet, but they do have heavy cav and dragoons sculpted by the Perrys! I also have the Perry French line infantry. The sculpts are very good and the cav sets include casualty figures and battlefield debris which is very welcomed by me as the extras will dress up the artillery and make objective counters/ casualty dice counters. I plan on another two dragoon sets and a few more French cav sets...dismounted dragoons are also included! The French infantry was a mixed bag for me. The sculpts and options are great, but they are all marching! You can build six skirmishers, but no firing lines. Victrix has a large selection of French units, so I will see what they allow. I primed these fellows in black because of all the dark colors. I also prefer to work from black undercoats. The plan is to use the troops in skirmish games set in the Penninsular War and some of my favorite Sharpes books. I would not be suprised if I also do the Early India campaigns of Wellington as the Penninsular War uniforms are of the Period. I will eventually get around to the larger regimental/ division battles. This will be after I amass more troops. I'll nd to figure out basing too. I do not want to redo my work into block formations, so I will need to make movement trays to allow for the bigger clashes of formations. For now, Mr Sharpe will be taking on French cav, infantry, and dragoons trying to give time for the rearguard to spike the guns...after blasting some frogs to oblivion of course! ;)
